As bad as it seems, it was a lot worse. The publicity that this brings to the situation surely helps with the green iguana pet trade. The below iguana was in a nature preserve and the park ranger would not allow it to be brought to a zoo for rehab.

There is a lot of evidence that this whole thing was faked. Also, if you saw an iguana in that situation would you run for your camera or straight to intervene. Also, any time PETA is mentioned I'm immediately suspicious.
