Sexing Porphyraceus

Varanuskeeper Sep 16, 2012 05:30 PM

Hi. I recently acquired two hatchling Coxi and to me they appear to be two males. I have kept colubrids for many years of all manner of types, I have never kept these before. My question is, are porphyraceus any harder to sex than other colubrids? I included a video. Again, they seem to me to be two males but let me know what you think. Thanks. Tyler.

I hatched out my first clutch of coxi this spring. 5 babies. I popped them just like my corns and didn't notice them being any more difficult. If you pop out hemipenes than thats easy-two boys. Its the females that I always wonder if i'm applying enough pressure.

I just watched also, and it sure looks like two males. That sucks, cause I know they aren't cheap. Hopefully the breeder will correct the problem?

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!
