Moving advice please!

Guppyfry Sep 22, 2012 09:36 AM

I may be moving in the coming months. I would be driving 800 miles and a ferry ride with my two dogs, three cats, and Kingsley, my 6 year old California Kingsnake. I’m in Canada, so we would be traveling during winter.

Any tips on how to keep Kingsley safe and warm while on the road?

Put the snake in an old pillow case, tie the top in a knot and secure a bread tie just below the knot. Make an insulated transport box by lining a box with foam and shredded paper. Put a bottle of warm (not hot) water in the bottom so it can't role. Put a layer of shredded paper on the bottle. Put bagged snake in box, add more shredded paper. Close box top and you are good for several hours. Try to keep the box in a warm place, with you if possible. You may need to reheat the water depending on the size of the bottle and how long the trip takes.

You can also just put the snake bag inside your coat and keep it next to you for warmth. Feeling it move around is a good way to know it is A-OK.

Hope your move goes well.
