aggressive northern BTS

carolinaherpgirl Oct 02, 2012 03:45 PM

I have an aggressive northern blue tonge skink. It's a male that
is 8 years old and around 25 inchs long. I have had him since he
was a 5 inch baby. He was mean then and has only gotten worse. I always have to deal with him lunging after me to feed him or even change his water. He even lunges when you walk past his tank. He is in a 40 gallon breeder tank thats fully furnished with plenty of bedding for hiding. He is a great eater. After the long struggle to get him out of the tank he will calm down some but still cant be trusted. he has never bitten me but i dont give him the chance to. when he does bite onto something he does an alligator role and doesnt let go for a while. i think im going to have to use leather gloves to get him out for now on. any advise would be great for I know these lizards live a long time and this friendship is getting old. I've even thought of selling him to some one for breeding and finding me a nicer lizard but then i feel like a owner failure and worry that someone would abuse him for being so mean.

I had a male like that a few years ago. He eventually calmed down. I actually miss having a huffy pissy skink around. They make wonderful display animals and reasonable breeders most of the time. 90% of the northerns that we have owned have been absolute sweethearts. Some just don't ever calm down though. Nothing cooler than a giant fiesty bluey though
