Zena Progression pics......

rainbowsrus Oct 09, 2012 12:14 PM

Well, now the Candy Stripes are a year old and I put together some progression style sets of pictures....

Zena, just born on 10/08/2012, pre-first shed

Zena a couple weeks later after her first shed...

Zena at almost 8 weeks old...

Zena at 2 1/2 months old...

The next day she shed...

Zena at 5 months old...

And Zena at 11 months old...

And the pictures do not do justice to her, in person she and all the other Candy Stripes just glow!!!

That is one crazy looking girl! Love the bright color and weird pattern. Hope you can produce more like her!

Thanks, of course I won't truly know until I do produce that repeat litter but I really think this is genetic and just a matter of time now....

I meant to ask, what does it seem like as far as how it's reproducing? If you're not quite ready to say yet, that's cool...or if you did say, I've missed it. Just from the little I've seen, I'm guessing incomplete dominance? Have you been able to breed one of the "super candy stripes" to something else to see what the offspring turn out like, or are those still growing up? The hypo you produced not long ago was kind of the normal candy and not the super candy appearing animal right?...or am I remembering wrong?

If I'm asking about things you're sitting on and holding back until you know more for sure (or whatever other reason) you won't hurt my feelings by telling me you don't want to say.

Whatever the path is for reproducing these things, they still look amazing!

Yes, it appears to be incomplete dominant. The original Candy Stripes (Ziggy and Zoe) are siblings that came from a girl here in San Jose. She produced a litter in 2007 from two animals that were individual craigs list purchases so untraceable. Several babies in that litter had dorsal striping and I picked out a pair of the nicest looking ones. Before she could produce another litter she lost both original parents (long story there)

Last year was Ziggy and Zoe's first pairing and that produced the Super Candy Stripes, Candy Stripes and normals. I kept the whole litter. So far there are only four Supers on the planet and they are only one year old. I kept that whole litter and am raising them up to breed.

I now have the "second" litter on the ground between Ziggy and a unrelated Hypo female. Two of five babies show the candy stripe and of course are also het Hypo. Still fitting the Incomplete Dominant model!!! More breeding trials to come...

Thanks Dave, awesome stuff! I'll definitely be looking forward to the results of breeding one of the "super candys" and see if it keeps on producing how you would expect it to.

Thanks Aubrey, I'm having the time of my breeding career with these babies. Always thinking about what the next steps should be and what they would look like when combined with other existing morphs.

When your animals start glowing in the dark, I'm throwing in the towel lol.

rainbowsrus Oct 10, 2012 05:11 PM

Might as well start throwing now, the Candie Stripes are as close to it as I've ever seen in any species of snake and more than I ever imagined.
