moellendorffi delicate?

Jonasgn Oct 16, 2012 07:04 PM

Hi all

A few years ago, i looked into getting some moellendorffi. But didn´t because i kept hearing that they where very delicate and hard to keep alive.
They did best at low temps and small food items.

How much of this is true?
Maybe the reason was the many wc animals, so how are the cbb doing in captivity?

Thanks

Jonas

I think your last sentence said it Jonas. Many asian ratsnakes have that reputation and I think it's definatly due to reputations started from back when most asians that were available were wild caught.

While they do generally require different basic setups than most of the north american species, I've found ALL the asian species I've worked with have done very well and all have reproduced for me so far.

I keep most of my asians including moelendorffi cooler with higher humidity. Many people just keep them cool but I've found over time that all of them do better with a warm spot although not as warm as for north american species.

My moelendorffi are young still but have proven to be very hardy so far and growing like weeds.
