i have a huge female rat shes about 8 months old and had her second litter. the first litter she starved her pups to death than ate most now shes had her second litter 12 pups and i noticed there are 8 left now? and one is looking very skinny the rest look good as long as she stops eating them? i dont know why she is doing this i feed her mazuri 6f and even give her snacks every other day. i figured i would give her a second chance but if these 8 pups left don't become her food than she will not be fed to my huge pastel. any thoughts why this could be happening?

do you move mom around after birthing?
keep in colonies?
feed what?
bedding?
ages?

...I bred 1.5 rats per colony or more.(1.9)..never take male out.....I would take pregnant mothers out and place them in a lab cage when they were about to drop.....that way they are alone with the kids...nothing to do but take care of them....and feed well....

I used dog food, lab chow,corn,oats,sunflower,veggies,sweet potatoes ,peanuts,etc etc etc....(people will say NO sweet taders,NO raisins,NO dog food even,....)...I fed it all ....they get bored with one food....YET I know other people that are the opposite....they feed just lab block, or just dog food... and keep all rats together, all the time,, and have good luck.....

it's all what suites you....(and your rats)...
