From the picture, it appears all argus and wild caught. You cannot accurately tell the age by size, particularly with wild caughts, which that appears to be. Or at least looks like one.

Its head, looks much larger and older then the size you mention. But then its a picture. Cheers

hey thanks for the reply. Hes actually not wild caught. This petstore (specializing in reptiles) had bred a bunch of them and sold all but one.The store closed for relocation and being the last one to be sold he was (on his own) out growing the tank they had him in. Fast foward to yesterday, its been months since the sign for the store got put up. So i decided to drive by and see if they were open. Well they were but they were having a close out 50% off everything sale. So I ran in there to see if they had that Argus. I looked and looked for this little monitor and then it hit me that it had been months he would be much larger. I turned the corner and there he was. Apparently the petshop owners went bankrupt and couldnt pay their rent. The owner of the building was selling off all the pet supplies ahe had no idea what he had on his hands.

120$ later i have this beauty! Havent chosen a name yet though...

The shape and condition and skin condition indicate wild caught. or are really poor captive life, either way, its the same.

I am not sure why people believe petshop owners, who are known to tell the same old stories. Cheers

Thanks for weighing in FR.

He had a horrible captive life. They had him in a rabbit cage with some wood chips on the ground and one 65 watt heat lamp on the top.

I know for a fact he isnt wild caught i saw this guy and his bros and sisters only days after they hatched and this was the last one to sell...who never sold...

out of curiosity however, what about his skin indicates wild caught or poor captive life? What are you seeing that I am obviously not

Sir!? As for the hybrid i dont know.. I had what i was told was one of the first panoptes in the U.S. back in '89 or '90. Of course i was told that by the guy sellin it to me outta CZS. unfortunetly it was before i had met this guy that taught me how to take care of the dang things. The hybrid i'd like to see would be a croc X rudicollis! Now that would be a lizard! Big long snout chock full of razor blades, ten feet long, and completely unapproachable, feeding on a bucket o'crickets every twelve hours... Maybe not though...but i ll have to make some calls to a couple of geneticists i know...
As for heading out there, i'd love to, but i have all these dang kats and no one willing to feed em for me or keep em out of the coyotes, so it would have to be like an overnight trip...
cool on the saguaro!
Sir? really? he he he
