Hi,everyone. I have a nile monitor with a slightly swollen front foot and one of his digits is also swollen. He also has a small section on the affected knuckle which looks like a small ulcer, not deep, just my description. He or she is 33" long in a custom cage 4'x 3'x 3'x. For heating there is two under tank heaters, 2 90 watt flood lamps and 1 50 watt bulb. substrate is 3 parts top soil, one part sand, 8" deep. Humidity is 80%, air temp.is between 82 at night and 95 during the day. Hot spot hits 130-142 under the light.I feed him one small mouse frozen mouse per day and sometimes raw chicken. I'm sorry for the long post, just wanted to be descriptive.

If you could show pics of the cage and the animal, that would be nice.

As of now, I cannot figure out how you can have so much heat in such a small area? That baffles my little mind. Cheers

Not all the lights are on at the same time. I can't post pics right now but the cage is 3/4" plywood top, bottom is melamine and sides are 3/4" plywood. The bottom 10" of the cage I lined with pond 45 mil. pond liner rubber to protect the wood from the moisture.

FR, Thanks for responding and I re-read my original post and it may have been misinterpreted. I have 2-90 watt flood lamps and 1-50 watt bulb. The under tank heaters are zoo med 6"x9". The temps I gave are accurate though. For two days I wiped his foot with alcohol and put neosporin on it and the swelling went down. Another thing I forgot to mention was it was the palm knuckle of his foot which may have been from digging. I've been reading this forum for a while but never commented in fear of setting my own hair on fire and sounding stupid. I will update his foot progress and post pics as soon as I can. Again, thanks for the response.
