The Candy came too late for Halloween...

rainbowsrus Nov 05, 2012 04:50 PM

May have been late for Halloween but any time is a good time for Candy Striped BRB's!!!

Yes, there are now even More Super Candy Striped BRB's on the planet. I bred Zoe back to Ziggy again this year and I was really torn for a while, gravid or not. Adding to my confusion were two very close sheds marked down on her record card, 06/23 and 07/29. At this point I don't know if I mixed up sheds between Ziggy and Zoe or if she shed twice in that short span of time. Either way I had an early due date for on 10/18 that came and passed with no babies. Last year she went nine days past due date so I was still not convinced. The second due date was 11/03 and as time passed she was clearly gravid. A few weeks before her first due date I was unable to detect any fetal heart tones with my monitor so I was thinking not gravid. But, as the middle of October approached I was able to find them clearly and multiple ones. COOL!!! Then the wait, and more of the wait. I have never anticipated a BRB more nervously and hovering so much as this one. And like the proverbial watched pot she never seemed to boil.

The last week or so she's been constantly moving around slowly. Not so much that you'd notice unless you were constantly checking on her and could tell the coils were piled differently.

Last night she moved the furthest, from the floor to the water bowl. I swear I must have checked on her a half dozen times through the night. This morning she was half out of the water bowl and a few minutes later back n the floor all coiled up again. So off to work I go. Then after lunch my wife checked and found a pile of babies in the water bowl. I rushed home to care for them and I now have have 9 more candy line babies with two supers, a couple clear Candys, a few normals and a couple possible candys. So yet another clear indication of this being genetic - one of the key breeding trials is to replicate your results a second time - done!!!

Will get some pics up later, I was in a rush when I got home.

Can you let me know the artist you use to airbrush those guys? He/she does some unique work!

rainbowsrus Nov 06, 2012 11:18 AM

Ok, here are some pics. They were born in the water bowl and I rushed to get them out so no in the slime pics for this litter.

Then I had a great idea, introduce Zena to her little sisters....

I think I've found my new desktop background pic......

The litter was small, only 9 babies but still awesome. Mostly females with only two males and all the candy babies are females. 0.2 Supers, 0.3 Candy Stripes 0.1 pos low expression candy stripe and 2.1 normals

Yep, definitely airbrushed lol. Very nice and sure to look as dazzling as the first litter as they gain even more color!

Very cool Dave! Super congrats!!! I see the candies aren't quite as striped this time around, but still wicked awesome! So, pink tongues?

Yeah, same type of markings but not as intense, looks like it could just be normal variation. And yes, both Supers have pink tongues.

Very cool! Looking at your pics again, I do see one with a pink tongue. Missed it the first time through. Someday I really gotta get a pair of these.

Actually, if you look closely, you can see three pics with pink tongues. Looks like one of them may have a black spot in the middle of the tongue.

LOL, upon closer inspection there are only two pics showing pink tongues. The one that looks like a tongue with a black spot is actually the tail of the other Super.

And the "tail" shot.....

(although the one lower left looks pink, I think that may just be lighting)

Yes I'm keeping them, brings the total to 3.3 Supers!!

And I'm thinking about giving Zoe the year off in preparation for 2014 breeding trials to finish proving out the genetics. That means no more Supers will be produced until 2014.
