Field collected corn, guess the locality

herpenthusiast Nov 07, 2012 07:11 PM

This guy wrapped around the top wrung of the ladder of a tree trimmer at the jobsite I was on today. I relocated him from the gated community full of snake haters armed with shovels to the relative safety of my 3 acre yard(5 miles away).

Definately from Florida. What size was it? It looks like maybe 2-1/2 feet.

Here's one that I caught near Daytona Beach "back in the day."

How can you tell? To tell you the truth most locales look very similar to me. I'm just wondering what stands out that says "Florida" about this snake.

Good eye, it is indeed from florida. This one is from the opposite coast though, and further south. Collier county(Naples). It was only about 18 inches. I just moved over from the hustle/bustle of Southeast florida where I have been for the past 11 years and am really enjoying living in a semi rural setting on the Southwest side. We had a Florida black bear walk through the back yard a few weeks ago, and deer regularly visit. As far as snakes, so far I have only seen black racers and ringnecks on our property, but I'm sure the list will grow.
