A couple new, unique pick-ups (duw)

ccphoto Nov 11, 2012 03:56 PM

I just got these two from a couple of guys in NJ that breed a few select animals (They still have some available for pretty cheap - $200 a pair - e-mail me and I can pass their info along).

Anyways, I found them on Craigslist, drove down to NJ to meet them, and picked out a pair (I sexed them as a pair). I bought them because about a third of the clutch had these dorsal neck stripes combined with aberrant side markings (pearl, eclipse, normal, melted, etc.). Their tongues also have some pink on the edges and underneath, but I wasn't able to get a good shot of it. The dam looked normal and the sire was m.i.a. at the time I got there.

Here are the pair I picked out:
Chaos and Atlas - you can clearly see the neck striping here

Chaos - female (shedding yesterday when I got her)

Atlas - male

Some of the side blotches on both look "melted"

Thanks for checking them out John! Hopefully, the neck pattern is a hint at something else going on.

Very cool! It's funny, I picked up a female (Chocolate) several years back that had a little bit of this going on. She was the only one I had ever seen with it at the time and I thought it would be neat to try and breed it longer to produce a double-stripe. I had people laugh at me when I told them my plans for that little anomaly.

Since then I have picked up another female with much more double-striping, and now I see someone else has produced more of them. HA! Guess I won't be the pioneer on this project after all, though.

Congrats on the find.... they are sweet!

Thanks Aubrey! I'm really hoping it is something new! Really lucky for a Craigslist find! haha I'd imagine it has to be genetic with a third of the litter carrying the trait.

We all can wish right?

I checked out Chocolate, she is dark! haha Interesting since the dam to these two is really dark.

Thanks Dave! Their patterns definitely caught my eye. I haven't dealt with nearly as many BRBs as you and other on KS, but they are some of the only ones I've seen with the neck striping.

That striping may be a telltale sign of what's to come. You never know? Nice markings too!
