Racers of Europe

schaich Nov 13, 2012 02:27 PM

Hello America

Not only in America but also in Europe there are some breeders of racers.

Here my favourite species: Malpolon monspessulanus.

At the moment I've got hatchlings of Malpolon insignitus and monspessulanus.

I'm very interested in the old Europeen Coluber group and of course in North-american racers and coachwhips.

Unfortunately my friend's homepage about Malpolon - Malpolon.com - is in German but we're thinking about an English version.

Kind regards from Switzerland to all "lovers" of fast snakes.

Welcome! I love Malpolon! Wish they were easier to find in the states

Are there any breeders or are they available in the US?

... wow, what a beaut, very coachwhip like, tell me, do they pin their prey w/ a body loop as ours do?
Im guessing they dont operate at higher temps as the new world snakes do (30-38* C)
Thnx for stopping in, its a slow forum, especially in the winter.

Cheers, rxr

Hello

Nice pic; kick out the lazy cat und toss away the rusty mousetrap - is it a racer??

Malpolon are great and they like extremely hot temperatures - lying on a slab with 110F is no problem for them, even for hours. Any other snake would crawl away.

They are very intelligient, curious and show different behaviours you wouldn't believe a snake is capable to do.

Here it's now wintertime, too. All the snkaes are in the cellar now. Sad time.

Regards, Christian

... haha yes its a racer; thats why this is called the racer forum!
Interesting that your european coachwhip likes things hot too. Next year when you warm them up, lets see some pix of them eating, maybe crawling on grass or climbing a small tree in natural sunlight?
take care & happy holidays / john

Interesting enclosure, tell us more about it. What do you keep in there, and what is it made from? Screen, or glass?
-----
Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!

What's wrong with using CAUTION?!?!?!
