Where have all the Hot Snakes Gone?

choppergreg Nov 29, 2012 09:55 PM

Over the past two years you seem to see the same common species of hot snakes, and once in a while a rarer more expensive one Like a mangshan, a Samar spitter, etc. for sale. But where have all the snakes that were abundant years ago go. Like Mozambique spitters, forest cobras, boomslangs, all Asian treevipers and European vipers. Even when I go to shows. As far as venomous snakes go there is a very limited variety. But people seem to be up to there eyeballs in ball pythons and boas.

Laws are killing the venomous hobby in the States. When I was living over there venomous snakes were legal in Washington. Then they got banned and I moved to Idaho, where they were technically legal but getting an import permit was close to impossible. Laws kill the demand so the supply diminishes.

Now I live in Europe, and I see some amazing animals in decent size shows. The variety is incredible, even in Australian elapids. Most of the rare snakes that are sold on this website are European imports.

Cheers,
Yasin
