Hi, you can use either an infrared bulb or a ceramic heat emitter. The infrareds last a few months, the CHE`s can last a few years. So long as the ambient (air) temp in the coolest parts doesn`t go below approx 21c (72F) the monitor should be fine.
And just for the sake of mentioning it, if there are darker hiding places leaving the heating/lighting on 24/7 is o.k, should you wish to do that.
I just keep the room temp at 70F and the lights on 24/7. I don't bother with the infared this or ceramic that. They just go into their tunnel if they want to sleep or go under their woodstacks. If you have deep substrate this would not be a issue. I always try to use the mininimal amount of electricity to make them thrive. By that I mean if they are thriving on one light bulb I do not add a second one. If they look like they could do better on two lightbulbs then I will add it. Cool spots are just as important as hotter spots with reptiles.
You can really spend money hand over fist on these extra things for your reptiles you gotta watch out for that.
