Preferred uv source

danbristow Jan 05, 2013 05:49 AM

What's everyone's preferred uv source? I know the sun is best but what about inside enclosures? I use Arcadia products( I'm in the uk but they are available in the USA now) I use a T5 tube which is 12% and an mvb . Do some people just use tubes/ mvb's and not both? If you just had to use one what would it be?
Regards
Dan

I use ZooMed Reptisuns 10.0s because I've tested them and like the UVB output- I'm in New York, USA and it gets quite cold here- As far as tubes I find them to be the best ones around-

MVBs are great too- but expensive and they kind of make me nervous with my guys touching them or something.

I prefer MVBs.

I hit send too soon. I prefer MVBs, but don't have to use them very often. During most of the year my older iggies are outside enough during the week that they don't need UV inside. Mostly I use MVBs for my very young iguanas and for my beardie who spend more time inside.

i use 10.0s and they live outside may to sept. so dont really worry about it to much.

I wish I lived in a decent climate so I could have an outside enclosure too. As you will know the UK isn't known for its sunny weather !!
I am still thinking of building an outside enclosure forthe rare sunny day though as I'd love to give my rhino some real sun!

ya look into maybe a home made green house. every little bit helps.

What about taking him out on a leash on those rare sunny days?

I have had good luck with the 10.0 tube . BUT MY iguana will not go under a mega ray ?? I have had two and he avoided both at any distance . Only one he would will go under ( at 18'' ) is the solar glow , that puts out only 60-65 MW of UVB using my 6.2 solar meter . I have three 10.0 at 20 , putting around 85-95 MW of uvb , BUT that over his whole body . NOT just a small area .
