Exotic ban passes in Wilson County TX

royerreptiles Jan 06, 2013 06:07 PM

This one came in with very, very little warning. Apparently Wilson County, TX, which is adjacent to Bexar County (home of San Antonio) passed a law in November that bans all non-native venomous and the "big five". Texas already had a permitting system in place, but this did not stop the county. There was no warning about this, we just heard about it here. As far as I know Andrew Wyatt and USARK were unaware of it (this was while he was still President of USARK in November). It originally started out with talk of banning all non-indigenous, but apparently this is what they came up with. Talk of having pythonidae and boidae came up in early December.

and here is the link to the Wilson County News story that caught our attention. It's got a video of a veterinarian who brought all of this to the attention of the powers that be. I recommend listening to what he has to say. You'll be amazed that he's an educated, licensed veterinarian.

Seems like since the original ordinance was passed, they've quietly changed the language to "all boas and pythons."

Dr. Hill, the veterinarian responsible, still wants to expand this law statewide in Texas.

I'd be very curious to see his connections with PeTA/HSUS.
