Indoor Plumbing, sort of...

pyromaniac Jan 21, 2013 09:43 AM

Our box hide.

Our toilet. Time to change the paper towels!

Us underneath toilet being warm and content in our clean bedding. We are directly over UTH. We are fed fuzzies in the cup every 7 or 8 days. We use the toilet 90% of the time instead of pooping in the aspen. Simply switch out the soiled toilet for a fresh one a couple days after feeding.

My other pits do this toilet thing as well. My pyros just go to the far end of the cage and poop. I think this is an attempt to not have their feces near their nest. In the wild they would not want to lead predators to their nest with a lot of feces in the area. Sort of like cats burying their feces. If the snakes could leave the cage they would poop anywhere while cruising about and not be confined to any one spot. So this pooping in the container or at the far end of the cage is an adaptation to captivity, I think.

Hi Bob,great pics, how about a peek at those 2012 Rozy siblings? Hope everything is shaping up for a productive 2013 season!

pyromaniac Jan 21, 2013 10:59 AM

Alas, I traded off all the baby bulls for several months worth of rodent feed. Nobody seemed to want to buy them, I am fairly good at production but marketing is not my thing, I guess.

My reverse patternless trio. In a couple years they will be big enough to breed. I am hoping the patternless will be more in demand than the normals.

Well,I can certainly relate,we can't keep them all! I was just curious to see how they looked after a few sheds. That (patternless)trio is nothing short of enviable! Keep us updated on their progress...I guess we could all take solice in some new pics of "Roz" then...(*lol*) I love me some "Stillwater's "! Of all the morphs & combos, they still satisfy my "sayi vision quest" the best!!! Best of luck this year!

Rozy this morning. Still in brumation. Photo taken with full spectrum lamp to try to show her colors most realistically. Still not quite gold enough; weather permitting will try outdoor shot after brumation is done.

Put her in chair and turned lamp off and just used flash. This is more how she really looks, but it is pretty had to get a shot in the dark, as the subject tends to move out of range! LOL!

Thanks, she's just smokin' Bob!

pyromaniac Jan 24, 2013 08:02 PM

I'm glad you like her! She is one of my favorites, even when she was so hungry last summer she grabbed my hand and tried to drag it under her hide to eat it! When she's not hungry she is a very nice girl.

Her baby picture.
Eventually I may try mating her to one of my patternless males, although the first offspring will only be het for patternless and will all appear normal. I have to make sure I will have some sort of market for normals, as I don't want to produce a bunch of babies nobody is interested in having.

Well, sometimes to make a genetic omlett you have to churn out a few "normal" eggs! (*lol*) here's one of my "normals" from last year, and I'm keeping most of them! I know what you're saying though

Rainshadow Jan 27, 2013 04:16 PM

Continue to increase the red/orange they're showing so far. They're possible multi-hets.. Produced by Jonel Lopez last year.

Since Rainshadow and I both have Jonel Lopez stock, and I have also Jiannotti stock (1.1 patternless) it will be very interesting to see what gets produced in the future. I just hope the market appreciates them as much as you do!

Those are some awesome normals! You should get patternless, whiteside, axanthic out of them.

A 2011 female from Jonel Lopez; unfortunately I did not have the $ at the time to buy her. She had Kingsville red in her genetics, hence the wonderful red.

Bronze, my 2012 male from Jonel.
I hope Jonel does not mind I am posting his photos. But they are so much better than mine!

He does take some incredible photos! I have some patternless animals, all but one are females though...this is a super reduced pattern Stillwater hypo, that just shed last night. He looks a little pissed that he had to try to squeeze into his (now, way too small) water container! this is probably the lightest, most faded-out Stillwater I've ever seen! (I wasn't able to get any info on who produced this one.)

pyromaniac Jan 28, 2013 06:53 PM

LOL! He does look pissed off!
He is the most faded pattern bull I have seen yet. Very interesting!

I really had liked that big 2012 clutch of normals but feeding all 11 of them indefinitely would have been a daunting task, not to mention housing! This year I am not going to bred any pituophis. Will wait for my patternless to mature.

You've got some pretty animals. too!
