Observing Indigos

englishaussie Jan 22, 2013 10:00 AM

Hi everyone,

The wife & i are planning a couple of trips over the next year or two to Florida & Texas. Being an Indigo fan i would love to observe & photograph some wild specimens.

Does anyone know what time of year gives the best chance to maybe see some of these awesome snakes. Here in AZ spring is the best time to observe herps after their emergence from brumation. I figure for Indigos thier breeding season would be the best time to get a chance of seeing them, Oct - Feb.

Any info much appreciated, thanks guys

Andy.

My guess is that the overwhelming majority of those who read this forum have never seen an indigo in the wild. The only one I saw was a road kill in 1980, near Sarasota. Breeding season, late fall and winter is the best time to see them, based upon what I have read. Go to Project Orianne website and contact those folks. They are southern Georgia, not Florida, but they may be able to help you. Might help if you make them a contribution.

Thanks Guys, thats what i thought. I am a member of the society & have made a donation.

I will contact them nearer the time & hopefully visit their facility in central FL.

Thanks again
Andy.

All I can say is wow. Those are all great shots. Without giving any specific locale information, where were the indigo pictures taken? Love the pileateds.
