Snake rack question

AudryPayne Jan 24, 2013 04:26 PM

Hi. I used to breed a variety of colubrids, pythons, and lizards but sold out because my health failed. I'm interested in getting started again with the BRB. I'm just wondering how you keep your temperatures right if they are kept in a rack system? I've seen it done many times. My previous snakes were all housed individually in glass cages so monitoring temps and humidity were no problem. Will a rack system work with BRBs, or should I invest in a different type of housing?

For breeding nothing beats a good cage. For smaller individuals, subadults, neonates and hatchlings, racks work great. Humidity is controlled by ventilation, minimal ventilation = maximum humidity. With the same thermostat, the whole is controlled similar. Some taller racks can be broken into zones so you don't get as much of the vertical temperature variations. My largest racks are dual side radiant heat. The mid size and smaller are belly heat.

I have shoe box hatchling racks, sweater/blanket combo racks, Boaphile ballroom racks and some I had made for CB110 tubs.

Thanks for the information Dave. I've checked out your available BRBs. Nice! Do you have any unrelated pairs available?

Thanks Cliffe. BTW, the link to your website is down. I saw some of your beautiful snakes on Facebook, but noted you also had a waiting list. Anything available now?
Thanks,
Audry Payne
