sheltopusik : european legless lizards

so these are truly an amazing anguid, which seem to be rarely discussed in any detail,even here! google scholar has virtually nothing (in english) on their ntrl histry, wikipedia is probably the best single page, yet these have been regularly offered as adults here in the US and for a number of years.
Anyone know what country exports them? & why only the adults?
Interesting too is how big these things get, at that size they presumably are competing w/ some pretty tough taxa like those european whipsnakes, yet most of them appear to have retained their
tails, unlike many if not most of our adult american anguids.
Has anyone captive bred them? Very cool critters. hopefully some of our european friends will share some fotos & information :}
