Mixed up on hybrids

Desone Feb 06, 2013 06:48 AM

I been looking into hybrid cyclura. Now i notice two different names for Cyclura Nubila.
Grand Cayman hybrid rocks, and Caymen Brac rock. Are they the same?
Also Lewisi crosses, and sister island iguanas.

"Grand Cayman hybrid rocks, Caymen Brac rock. Are they the same? "

nope not the same. GC hybrid is any of the nubilas crossed with some amount of C lewisi. Cayman brac is C caymanensis from the island of Cayman Brac.

"Also Lewisi crosses, and sister island iguanas."

Lewisi cross is the same as the above GC hybrid. cross=hybrid. Sister Island iguana is another name and the most common island name for C caymanensis
I'm sure others will expand on this

Thanks for the reply. Cleared it up. So it's a hybrid im after. I really like the spikes of the Brac. Awesome lizards.

Don't rely on one individual iguana to judge the spikes. They vary from individual to individual no matter what the subspecies. Variances are in color as well as length

Until recently, Cyclura hybrids almost always meant something crossed with the Grand Cayman (Cyclura lewisi). Now, it seems that Sister's Rock Iguana crossed with Cuban is on the market. That might be where some of the confusion lies.

The idea behind the hybrids is to have a pet that is except from any C.I.T.I.E.S. restrictions.
