Plethodontid eggs

plethodontidz Feb 08, 2013 10:54 AM

I'm a herpetologist/hobbyist and I'm interested in acquiring some plethodontid salamander eggs. I've seen posts for adult dusky and two-lined salamanders, but nothing along the lines of eggs. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out with this--either let me know if you or someone you know sells these or can point me in the right direction to find someone who does.

Nobody sells that kind of stuff. Both salamanders lay their eggs attached to a rock submerged in running water. No only would scaping off the eggs kill them, but raising the larvae is difficult. Neither salamander is worth very much money, so there'd be no incentive to work with them in captivity. I've never seen amphibian eggs of any kind offered for sale.

your best bet is to get some adults and some hormone and induce breeding. Biological supply compamnies like carolina biological will sell spotted salamander eggs in the spring but not two line.
