Pair of Texas Rats

scaledverts Feb 26, 2013 10:11 PM

Hello,

This form is kind of dead, so I thought I would throw a quick post up of a pair of texas ratsnakes I am raising up from Allen Sheehan. Sorry for the bad pics, I took them quickly with my cell phone.

Great looking animals. I have a pair of Texas Rats that are some of the most laid back animals that I keep.

I've never kept Texas Rats, but the ones I came across in the wild were very aggressive! Do they get used to being handled or are the captive bred animals just more tame? Never saw one with so much color! Thanks for the posts!

Mine were CB animals. I have breed Black Rats, and some of them are very aggressive when you try to handle them while others calm down very quickly. I am not sure if the ones that calm down quickly are smarter, or to quick to ignore a threat. I keep Black, Yellow, Gray, and Texas Rats. I like them all. I will try to post a picture of one of the Texas Rats this weekend.

Those do look good. Can't wait to see what they produce when bred together.

I can't wait either! Next year is going to be exciting for sure!

Hey Graham,

Thanks. Allen and I have been emailing back and forth quite a bit regarding Texas rats in general. I can't wait for this pair to breed next year. I'm hoping that Allen's paradox/hypo-e gene proves out. There are a ton of things coming down the pipe regarding Texas rats. I have slowly been trying to get various morphs etc to start working on snows etc. The albino I hatched out this year is doing great. He is growing like crazy and I am hoping to have something interesting to breed him to in a few years.

How did your season go last year? You had some interesting Texas rat pairings lined up for sure.
