Death by Provent-a-mite?

hetzell1991 Mar 24, 2013 09:45 PM

Has anybody ever lost a ball python from using Provent-a-mite? I have a small male ball that I just found a mite on, so I drowned the mite on him and sprayed his cage (after removing the water bowl) with the stuff. I hate using it because its a pretty potent insecticide, but has anyone ever had a snake die from it?

I have heard of hatchling mountain kingsnakes having an issue. It really depends on how you use it. Any really tiny snake can be affected.

I have used it on many snakes - cornsnake hatchlings, rosyboa adults and neonates, ball python neonates, spotted pythons, etc. To date, no problems. I spray the cage, let it dry completely, then add substrate and snake. No water for 24 hrs. Then I spray the floor around the cages.
