Leucistic Texas Rat - Pink Hue

MKeim1989 Mar 28, 2013 04:04 PM

This might be a silly question but I'm not extremely knowledgeable with leucistic snakes so I'm going to ask anyway.

I have a four year old leucistic texas rat snake I bought as an adult about a year ago. He's been kept under a white light in a tank for about a year and a half, as that's what the breeder said to use. (I've only just discovered that's wrong.) He ate less than twelve days ago and he shed about two weeks ago.

I just last night moved him into a snake rack with belly heat and news paper as a temporary substrate and this afternoon when I went to change over his water he has an extremely pink hue to him. Anyone know what this might be? Thanks in advance!

Air temp stays around 75. The surface temp is always between 83 and 85 on the hot spot.

,,,,,hmmmm....guess it isn't burned.....?....

pink can be from burns, or soaking /rot....or at times white snakes look pink because you can just see the muscle under the skin.....you said it turned pink....so it must have looked white before......

all I got.....???,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That's right. He was a beautiful solid white. Slight pink on his belly usually, but it wasn't from a burn or anything. It doesn't look like the pink is going away either. I've hard that they turn slightly pink sometimes before shedding but that its temporary. He's still super active as always. Any other thoughts?

only OTHER thought would be that after shedding...his skin was a little thinner than normal?....but I never actually saw or proved that idea before....???

....if he isn't burned or infected....enjoy the pink .....I love pink........(did you see the pink leucistic garters?!!!)

Its not post shed, that's for sure. He should be in shed soon actually. As for the pink lucy garters, I have not seen them but would like to! Where can I find pictures of such a snake? I googled it but only found rat snakes and ball pythons...

go to classifieds...garters...look under Felzer's listing for babies...the one for laeucies he changed to just baby pics now...not as cool.....they grow to light pink to maybe dark....his one is real dark....posted one is in between....his site may hold all the pics.....
