Some guy handed me a water bottle with this snake in it. What kind is it? Found in the mountains near Agadir Morocco.

Viperine Snake (Natrix maura).
These are harmless snakes very similar to our North American Watersnakes (Nerodia). In fact, they are similar enough that our North American watersnakes used to be in the genus Natrix.

Thanks Chrish. I usually can "google" this stuff and find the species, but not this time.
I use to collect snakes when I was younger, but now I just look and release. In the past few years I have discovered Rainbow, Brown, King, Green, Mud, Red Bellied Water, Copper Head, Cotton Mouth, Hognose, Ringneck, Red Rat, Black Rat, Black Racer, Rattle (dead) and Scarlet snakes here in NC.
This year in Costa Rica, we stumbled upon a Eye Lash viper (bright yellow phase) and then this Viperine in Morocco. I will attach the link for the Eye Lash viper. He was only 8 inches and about as thick as a pencil.
Thanks again. I looked up Viperine and that is definitely a positive ID.
