Just found this guy, what is it?

Lokii Apr 21, 2013 03:33 PM

I live in Tehachapi CA and found this guy slithering around near my front door. Anyways I think its a baby desert king, but maybe I am wrong? What do you all think? I caught him for a coser look and he has since been released in a meadow by the house. Thanks for any help

Not a Desert Kingsnake (L.g.splendida).....it's a Sierra Garter Snake (Thamnophis couchii)

Here's a juvenile from Tulare County, California.
