Infernalis litter born yesterday

boxienuts Apr 23, 2013 10:33 PM

The first litter was from T. sirtalis infernalis aka California red-sided. Ended up with 7 big healthy babies. The parents are the neon blue variation, so they will get prettier and take on more blue color with every shed. Already they have good red color.
second pic is of mom

Nice litter! That female is sweet! What do you look for in your holdbacks. How old are they before you can say " that's the pair I want". Thanks and congrats. Mike Panichi

Thanks Mike, I found 5 more infernalis babies on the floor this morning, bringing the total to 13, sounds like you can relate.Scott Felzer would be a better person to ask as he has more experience with them than I do, as this is actually my first litter with infernalis. My limited experience with neon blue infernalis is that they get prettier with every shed for the first year or more. My female didn't "really" get her full blue potential for at least a year. I would guess that you can probably have a good idea what ones are going to be good ones sooner than that though. Again check with Scott, I think he has produced several litters of infernalis over the years, not sure how many he has held back and raised up though. Good luck with yours.

Congrats and yes, I can relate. It's just not a problem we get with baby boas lol. Anyway that's a super nice litter. I love the dam. Best of luck with them. Mike

Hey Mike,
Here's a little tip for you. I usually have my tubs shimmed up during baby season, but I hadn't done that yet when the infernalis were born. Anyway, here is the tip, go to the hardware store and buy plastic toilet shims. They are small plastic shims about 1"x2" and gradually get thicker. I you push/wedge a couple underneath each end of your tubs it pushes the top edge of the tubs up flush with the rack ceiling, then the babies can't crawl out when they are born. Work for me anyway. I have Economy Animal Plastic racks for my females. Hope that helps next time.
