Katie1709 Apr 30, 2013 03:23 PM

We live 30 miles east of Houston near a retention pond. This is the second time I have seen this snake near our house. I am curious at to what kind of snake it is. Any guesses? Thanks so much!

Diamondbacked Watersnake (Nerodia rhombifer).

Very common harmless snake in the Houston area.
They will bite if disturbed, but are harmless.

Thanks for letting me know! I know we have tons of frogs near the pond...they sure make themselves heard at night! This guy definitely will not run out of food
