Post Mating Response

JoeyCoco May 03, 2013 09:11 PM

Ok...soooo, my tricolored Bullsnakes did their thing for the past week and a half. Now it seems the love affair is over, at least for her anyway. She is totally nonresponsive to him now.
Now, what is the normal reaction by both at this time? For my two, HE seems to still be in the sexual mood...pacing back and forth, all around his bin, and still refusing to eat. SHE has just curled up in a corner, next to her rock, and hardly moves. I offered her a rat today and she DID eat the one, but refused a second. Is this typical? How about for you guys?

This does seem to be the norm; the female is finished but the male just wants to go on and on. I wish my male wold eat, but until the breeding season is over he is going to be a horndog. I put his mate in with their grown daughter in a separate cage so she could have some peace and quiet.

Daughter Rozy and mother Zoey recently, enjoying peace and quiet in their own cage. Alfonzo did get to mate with Zoey this week so he did get some relief although until the breeding season is over he will be persistent. In the wild the female would be able to go away from the male while the male would proceed on to find more females.
