I've had an anaconda for four years, and he has been docile as can be since i got him.

However, I have been bitten twice in the past 5 weeks, first time ever. He didn't strike, he didnt do any defensive posturing, just sort of opened his mouth and latched on to some hand-meat.

Any ideas what could be causing this, or how i can prevent it?

I've never seen this behaviour before but im guessing if he is a 4 yr old male and he began biting you around the start of April it is probably something related to reproductive activity-breeding season is roughly April-June

How much is he eating? Are you handling anything before you go to hold him? Has anything changed? I would think something like that he thinks its food. The only reason I say that is because my Conda, I have seen strike at me twice. Once when I reached in to grab him in the cage and the other was opening the lid to the bath he was taking. When I watch him eat, I just lay the rat in the cage and I watch him go up to it sniff it and then sometimes he will hammer it and sometimes he will just grab it. But I could also see what the post above me says. Just my two cents.
