A milk clutch and a few OT clutches

Dniles May 06, 2013 06:57 PM

I got this nice looking clutch of 8 eggs from an Amherst County VA eastern yesterday.

The babies should be nice and red like last year's group as both the dam as you can see above and sire are really nice red animals.

Sire

And a few OT clutches from a prairie king project I have going.

nice clutch from hypo x hypo

Dam

Sire

And a clutch from a locality KS animal x same hypo male

here is a better shot of the dam. I am hoping her dark coloration will make for nice hypos next generation.

Very cool stuff, Dave.

On average do 50% of your CB E. Milks eat pinks?
Where I live we have no lizards in the county, I figure some of those babies must eat young snakes.

Hey Tim,

yeah actually a good percentage take pinks fairly easily. Probably one of the more easier NA milks to get on pinks in my experience.

I'd say about 25% take a pink right away (either live or f/t) and 50% eat a pink around 4 weeks of hatching and then 25% need to be tailed for a month or two but then switch over usually to live.

I agree that likely the babies are eating baby "feeder" snakes in the wild like brown snakes, worm snakes, ringnecks, etc.

Great find. I hope to see you posting more.

BTW, how is that "hypo" Ltt doing?

Those nominate triangulum you guys are working with are top-notch, Dave. You're having a pretty sweet season so far, buddy! Glad to see that big calligaster produced a clutch for you.
