What color is my girl?

Trabash Jun 06, 2013 09:13 PM

Hi all! I am new to snake ownership and have just gotten my first California King, Selene. I am absolutely in love with her and so happy to have her in my life. I basically rescued her from a pet store. I had seen her there for 8 months just growing and growing in this tiny tank. It was becoming clear that no one was going to buy her nearly a year after I first saw her, so I did. I couldn't be happier. She is my snake soul mate. Anyway, I am really wondering what her color pattern is called. I know she is striped as opposed to banded, but is she hypo striped? Coastal phase? I would love to know what her pattern would be classified as. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

It appears that you have a nicely striped Coastal phase (brown and yellow) Cal. king. That was the first type I acquired also a long time ago. Congrats.

P.S. By the way you will likely get quicker responses in the general kingsnake forum if you don't get one here.

Thank you so much for your response! I am absolutely in love with this girl! What a personality! And so very social.

Thank you also for the tip on where to post my messages! I will do that in the future.

Looks like a Riverside (County) Striper. If you haven't done so already check Ross's website @ www.southerncaliforniakingsnakes.weebly.com. He's got pics of some under the Riverside Co locality photos. Great looking King. I'm hoping to get out there and see a few.

I looked at the website. Amazing photos. She certainly does look like she could be a Riverside striped. Her head pattern is so unique I see! I didn't find one with markings like that. But the stripes fit. I would love to get to California to see some wild Kings. What amazing and beautiful creatures they are!

I'm surprised no one has replied to this. Your King Snake could be either a Desert Striped California King or a Coastal Striped California King. I'm leaning towards Coastal.

Here is another pic of a Coastal.
