a few north american milks hatching out

Dniles Jun 07, 2013 07:47 PM

Things are starting to hatch out here and I am enjoying every minute.

First up a great clutch of Baltimore County MD Eastern milks hatched out. As you can tell one egg went bad but the rest made it.

Dam

Sire

Here is another clutch that just hatched. This is a perfect clutch to me - all the animals hatched, they pipped and emerged at the same time and all are screamers!!

Here they are pipping

and here are several in a pile looking good even before first shed

Dam - one of my all time favorite snakes

Sire

Hope you enjoyed.

Dave,
They are awesome.
I want some so bad but I have to stay focused on my arboreals.
You have the coolest milk collection.

I love that second clutch. That red is outstanding. What do you start them on?

They all get tails for some period of time before they'll take a ft or live pink. Some convert over as quick as a few weeks and others hold out for much longer. As a matter of fact I have a baby red from last year that still won't eat a pink !!

Dave,
does that mean you don't scent any of your babies at all with lizard?

Hey Norm

I try to avoid that if I can. Most of the reds and Easterns and coastal plains I work with will never see a scented mouse. Most will take a live or ft pink after some period of assist feeding with tails.

There are exceptions - the ones that hold out for 9months or more I usually give in. I've got one red from last year that is like that.

Thanks Jimmy. As you very well know it is a thrill to see these guys hatch out!

Excellent animals, buddy. Man, you've got a head start on the season! All of this year's eggs are still cooking or waiting to be laid!

Very nice. Just curious though, how do you start your hatchling Easterns? I had a massive clutch of 22 last year but couldnt get any to take pinks, and I did not feel like buying baby garters or dekays, so I released them all where I know there is a population of them.
