Sometimes life takes a major turn....

rainbowsrus Jun 14, 2013 03:11 PM

In this case I saw the roadsigns and have been preparing for the turn but still, when it arrives it's a mixed basket of feelings.

I work for IBM and on 06/12 I was informed there was a "Resource Action" and my services would no longer be required as of 07/12/2013. In other words - I am laid off.

Good news is I get a decent separation package and even better is my snake hobby/business is built up to the point of my original "plan B" of it being my full time job is viable. I've said for many years I finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up - snake breeder. Now it's time to transition to my dream job!!

I can't think of any better plan B! "Live the Dream Dave!". I sit in a cubicle every day taking retirement claims, dreaming of that plan B.. lol.

Sorry to hear this Dave. I've been in the high tech/telecom industry for 25 years, and the last 15 years have been no fun with all the outsourcing, "right sizing," "being affected", yada, yada.

But normally things end up working out better, even if there is some short term pain. Since you have a Plan B, you will do just fine. In a way, I'm envious! I'm still trying to figure out what my Plan B will be.

Best of luck,
Ed

I do really appreciate the support all of you on the forums etc. have given me.

I am a more than a little excited about the whole thing. Scary on hand and amazing on the other.

Does seem weird to be happy about being laid off but I am. I would have stayed at work for at least another year or two had they not nudged me out of the nest. Now I can devote full time to my collection and work on creating some amazing animals the likes of which the world has never seen. How crazy cool is that?
