Easy hide box by Rubbermaid

Upscale Jun 22, 2013 01:26 PM

Here’s a new Rubbermaid tub with the clear plastic window that flips down. Just cut a hole in the end and you have a really nice hide box! This one has peat moss about four inches deep for Brazilian Rainbow boas.

Here’s a snake going into the cut out (I heated up a knife and melt/cut the hole. The edges aren’t real sharp when you use heat)

View through the clear plastic door.

Here’s what they look like with the ‘night time’ colors. This is with the clear door flipped down. Very convenient without having to take the lid off.

This is pretty big but works for me in a decent sized outdoor cage in south Florida.

Enjoy!

Herpers look at plastic boxes in a totally different way compared to the rest of humanity. I saw those boxes just the other day and thought the same as you - hide box with side access/viewing.

Kudos for the outdoor caging. My next project is exactly that - an outdoor (dare I say it) snake cage. I am going to attempt a cornsnake outdoor enclosure, at least for Spring and the more mild days of Summer. Heat waves and Winter will still require an indoor cage depending on how the snake does.

I have a box turtle that has lived outdoors now for the last 5 years, and she has done way better outdoors than she ever did indoors. She is vibrant and healthy. Although she only digs down a few inches to avoid temperature extremes, the enclosure has a good 18 inches of soil depth, so it insulates well against heat waves as long as it gets moistened as necessary. Plus plants for shade.
