my first CB longnose snake hatched today

JoeTaffis Jun 27, 2013 10:25 PM

Eggs started hatching today from my first captive bred r.lecontei clutch. These were produced from long term unrelated WC parents. This is the first one out!

2nd & 3rd out of their eggs this morning, one is a black & white clarus phase....

Fantastic looking snakes.

I looked into them years ago but read very secretive and nervous so I never bothered but love their look.

That is very, very cool. I've found a fair number of wild Longnose and have always liked their variability in colors and patterns, tameness and unusual "look."

Thanks Tim, They are nice big babies too, and should handle pinkie mice with no problems. I'm hoping I can get them started without scenting. I ended up with two tri-color and four clarus phase from this clutch. Both parents are tri-color....

Oh, and thank you Fleck for your comment!

Welcome, certainly stunning snakes.

Can I ask you what day/night temps you keep the adults?

I feel these pretty snakes are not as popular as should be because not much care info on them.

JoeTaffis Jul 06, 2013 03:29 PM

Daytime temps mid to upper 80s, nightime high 70s....

Fleck Jul 07, 2013 12:32 PM

Thank you very much. Not as high as I had thought.

JoeTaffis Jul 07, 2013 06:16 PM

These temps are not set in stone, but this is what has worked for me....

Fleck Jul 10, 2013 03:10 PM

The temps are certainly better than the zero info, I have found online and the fact that you breed them speaks volumes.

Thanks

I think it was just a matter of having the patience to get them well acclimated, which really wasn't very easy, but worth the effort. Now my focus is on keeping the hatchlings healthy. Thanks for asking!
