Pale Milks: Sheridan County, Nebraska

Sunherp Jul 28, 2013 05:32 PM

In the spirit of the season, and at Dave's prompting, I thought I'd share a few photos of my first clutches out and shed. I'll post a LOT more photos as the other recently emerged neonates shed out... there are some things that I'm really, really excited about this season.

Without further delay, here are pretty special animals - Lampropeltis triangulum multistrata from Sheridan County, Nebraska. Only a few are produced in captivity every year, and each and every one is stellar looking and unique. I was lucky enough to produce two clutches this year, though both were small (one had two eggs, the other four), in keeping with the fairly small size of the adults from this locality. Both clutches were sired by this male (photo by Jose Ole):

Holy crap Cole, those are amazing! Who needs Cherry county when you have these? LOL. Great looking snakes buddy.

And getting kind of daring posing those little rascals on the rocks like that!!

Thanks, Dave! They're a treat to work with. Don't get me wrong, I really like Cherry Co., Nebraska pales, as the number of them in my snake room would attest, but there's something different about these Sheridans that gets my blood pumping.

Those babies are fantastic! As is their father. They appear to be fairly large or is that an illusion? Congrats on those.

A appreciate the kind words. They're in the 5-6 inch range, but stocky (well, stocky for hatchling temperate milks!).

Thanks, man. I'm going to be a busy guy this season... LOTS of North American milk eggs hatching around my place. I've got 8 clutches of Cherry Co., NE pales alone!

Like you, I enjoy seeing the animal as they'd look in nature. Here's a photo of (from left to right) Mike Puckett, myself, Dave Niles, and John Fraser in the field.

you guys are so lucky you have so many rocks to flip...here in Florida you have to peel bark to find elapsoides and it really ruins habitat......
pale milks really are so gorgeous....

Cole, Very nice "white-heads" you have made, I guess I better concentrate on making some Sheridans next season myself, though it will be tough to produce any finer than what you did, congrats all the way.....John
