Looking For an Old Photo

orchdork1008 Aug 03, 2013 10:39 AM

Hi Guys!
I know this is a long shot, but I'm looking for an old photo of mine. My 8 year old, female bubblegum ratsnake passed away from complications relating to egg binding about 10 days ago. A few years ago, I uploaded a photo of her to Kingsnake that I've recently tried to recover without any luck. I lost the original when my last computer bit the dust and Kingsnake removed all my photos since my account hasn't been active in a while.

The photo I'm looking for is of a very pink ratsnake with reversed saddles curled up on a green towel background. I think the original post was entitled "She sure is pink" or something of that nature. I know my chances are very slim that someone saved the image, but it's the only picture I have of her from when she was that young (about 2 years old) and still bright pink. She faded to orange and yellow as she got older.

Here's a more recent picture of her, in case it helps jog anyone's memory:

Thanks!
Sarah

I remember your username and that bubblegum Ratsnake. Sorry to hear that it past away.

I save TONS of photos and different bloodline and morph history's of all sorts of snakes. I remember you acquired it from a rescue facility and wondered what kind it was, and I told you about it being a three-way amel cross (Black x Yellow x Everglades).

According to my file info, I saved it to my computer on 10/1/07 almost exactly 6 years ago.

Yeah, she died about 3 weeks after her 8th birthday.

She'd never laid a clutch of eggs til this July. She got out 17 and was just too exhausted to pass the remaining 10. She had a great vet working on her: aspirated the eggs, dosed her up with great pain meds, fluids and antibiotics, gave her 48 hours to start passing them, then went in to take them out and in the process, found a large area of necrotic tissue near her cloaca. Aida made through surgery but didn't make it through the night.

On a more interesting note (and less of a buzz-kill), that photo isn't actually the one I was referring to, even though it matches my request perfectly I had forgotten that photo existed. The one I was thinking of is almost the same but doesn't have the dollar bill and the green towel is darker and has a waffle-like pattern. Not a complaint, I'm still amazed you found that photo! I really couldn't be happier.

Yes, that is really sad to hear. I'll try to dig into more pics of your actual photo of her.

Where a good number of the eggs fertile?

Ah, the million dollar question.
A coworker friend of mine breeds corns/bulls/grey-banded kings and I brought the eggs initially laid to him to look at. Of the original 17, 6 were potentially fertile but we didn't have a flashlight on hand to candle them. Of the 10 she held on to, 5 were really juicy to aspirate, the rest were slugs.

If things had turned out differently, I might have had a whole pile of little pink clones on my hands!

I see,....thanks. Hopefully there will be some fertile eggs that will hatch to carry on her genetic legacy for you.

THANK YOU DOUG!!

I really hoped that you'd saved a copy. I lurk on Kingsnake and Fauna Classifieds a lot and noticed you tend to grab pictures of Aida when a post shows up about Bubblegums. I had my fingers crossed.

I really can't thank you enough, the photo means a great deal to me. It's one of only 2 that exist of her as a juvie

Ahh, yes, I got to wondering afterwards if this wasn't the photo I posted to show you a good example of a bubblegum that you posted about. Sorry about that. I'll try to see if I can dig yours up somehow.

That photo actually IS her. It was taken by the rescue I adopted her from.

I really couldn't be happier, I thought any photo evidence of her bright pink days had been long lost.

DMong Aug 05, 2013 10:19 PM

OOOHH!!, that's right!! Now I remember you posting the pic of her that the rescue facility took of her for the advertisement itself. That was the first pic of her you initially posted here in hopes of getting her properly identified.

I looked through everything I had on file, and that turned out to be the only one I had of her. Now have you done an old forum search for a time in the proximity of 10/1/07?. Or did all that get deleted as well?

But anyway, it's great that you have the one photo I could find of her in all of her colorful glory. She was a stunning example of a nice "Bubblegum" Ratsnake. And as you might recall, Bill Love first originated those designer crosses back in the very late '80s - early '90s.

cheers, ~Doug
