Where have all the freckleds gone...!?

wohlerswi Aug 11, 2013 03:21 PM

Its been sometime since I kept monitors, but I always loved my v.t. orientalis. I ended up parting with them about 6 years or so ago unfortunately. I have since been looking for any orientalis and they seen to be almost nonexistant now a days. I can locate tristis tristis but that isnt what Im looking for. Does no one really work with these guys anymore?

I am aware of about a dozen European imports that appear to be pure "freckleds" Vto. They only came in as babies in the last year or so. I traded an older adult pair away because I just got sick of Tristis as captives some time back. I had a bad run, in general, with raising up 3 trios of baby Tristis that ended up all males. That kinda blew. I did get eggs from them once working them for about a year. Several clutches of the "Price" kind and one clutch of 3 babies of the really black ones before I got out of them completely. Honestly, the male skewing and the fact that most of mine were super shy "empty cage syndrome" prompted me to dump on them and focus on more Red Ackies. More people ask me for Reds than anything I keep and breed by a long shot, so I am adding breeders on those using the old Tristis cages. But look for Freckled babies to start emerging in the coming year 2014 if breedings go well in the USA. They're here.
