Will Geckos eat each other?

jpropst1 Sep 03, 2013 11:06 AM

I've had several snakes over the years but have never had any lizards to speak of. This past weekend the wife and I went to a reptile expo and I saw for the first time the Gargoyle and Crested Geckos. I purchased one of each. the Gargoyle is about 3" long and rather fat. The Crested was a little over two inches but was only about 3 months old. The vendor said that we could keep them in the same habitat that they shouldn't harm one another. Just to make sure it was large enough for them to not be on top of one another. This morning I went to get them out and I found the tail to the crested gecko in the cage but he was no where to be found. Has anyone had something similar happen?

oh snap!!! that's no bueno!!! :-o lol

i have never kept cresteds or gargoyles, but a bunch of other geckos.

man, sorry to hear that! i house all mine separately unless breeding. i used to try and house small colonies of female leos together, but every once and awhile would have issues such as a female being dominant and another stressing. so... i personally just get separate enclosures for all my critters.

i have never had one eaten, but i had a female leo with a couple bite marks. that was when i got more cages

sounds like there might have been quite a difference in size. that might have been the main downfall. that probably wasn't the wisest thing to house them together. i hear the "they told me i could" thing all the time. that sucks! i learned a couple decades ago not to take 1 person's word for anything. i try doing a bunch of research before i get any new critters.

try googling cresteds or gargoyle. they are very popular and have a ton of care sheets out there for them.
