Does anyone know what states protect or regulate by permit the importation and possession of western hogs?
For sure, Colorado, South Dakota, and Illinois.
Most don't realize that Missouri requires a breeder's permit. They were once declare extirpated and cleared for sale, but a few Gloydi have been found in the south eastern part of the state over the last couple of years and Nasicus have been rumored to have been found in the north west, but the source was questionable. Missouri still reqires both species to be on a class I breeder's permit regardless.
And Arizona. Hognose, both western and Mexican), occur within the state borders,( Westerns are questionable. Therefore, are regulated, by hunting regulations.
But, at this time, they are enforcing wild caught individual snakes, not Pet trade snakes. As they allow the sale at in state reptile shows of clearly captive hatched species, that can occur within the state. Like pyros and cal kings. to name two common species. They also allow the sale of hogs of all types at the shows.
I also heard they were redoing these regulations. My neighbor is a game and fish officer and I think hes in charge of this locally. Cheers
Just found out New Mexico requires an importation permit.
Is there a web site for this?
This something recently passed?
I don't know how recent but go to NM game & fish under permits and there is a list. Hogs are Cat III which requires some special import permits.
Hi Stu,
Well I talked to a lady in Game and Fish in NM....
She sent me some good info on what's required in NM. Hognose is considered Group III, which requires a permit!

So yes you have to have a permit to import Hognose into NM.
People there now without a permit with Hognose are SOL! She told me you can't get a permit and keep what you have already. This has been the law since 1967 updated in 2010. No distinction between wc and cb, it doesn't matter, they are all treated the same....according to her.
