Santa Cruz county hognose.

FR Sep 06, 2013 09:12 AM

I was out yesterday looking at the far western habitats. I did find a Santa Cruz county hog. Also some other pics and my hog machine.

THE KING WAS FOUND RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOGNOSE.

After a few mods to make this Harley back road worthy, its doing great. Enjoy

Hi FR, sorry I haven't been around buddy! How are you?

I've been scanning your posts (especially your photos, field notes and those posts of yours around the venomous debacle) but I really don't have adequate time to answer.

Nice hog, king, frogs, other "hog"...(and for your other posts, I really appreciate that you learn to recognize your specimens season to season)...if you ever come around here I'd be dying to meet you (and my hogs too at my own expense LOL!!!) though compared to New England you're in high herp territory where you already are!

As a side note I recently read something of yours from an article in Reptiles, can't remember the issue, surely it was about monitors but correct me if I'm wrong. When your name popped up that made my day, I literally choked on my coffee

Anyway I'm converting my hogs to more soil this weekend, per your inspiration. We'll see how they do. I've done it with the hatchlings-yearlings already and they seem to enjoy it and be more explorative than before. One of my picky buddies went into attack-and-eat-anything-mode with the change!

Cheers pal and have a good weekend from yours truly

"Go for it."

I got a few ball pythons and a metric f***ton of colubrids.

Well some here are going to hate this but, you made my day. Thank you.

Yes, I am that monitor guy, except I am actually a snake guy. When I applied my husbandry of "choices" to monitors, its turned, varanids, upside down. Monitors respond in a superior way.

Enough of that.

I am happy your snakes benefited. The only thing wrong with deep substrate is, sometimes, they won't come up. hahahahahahahahahaha It sounds like yours do. My son also uses deep substrate on his westerns and they do great. His feed daily, or hes upset. hahahahahahahahahahaha.

When you first posted, I thought you would do well. People who are curious tend to try things. Recipe keepers, tend to not try anything. Which I do not understand. you can always go back to what is was. Or try something else.

I look at those kings and think, they are made up of hognose. hahahahahahahaha I can't imagine how many that king has consumed. Have a great day.
