Fantastic southern hog! Really love those little critters.

Rather easy to swap to mice if it isn't already. Most easterns require dead toad rubbed on pinks, southerns I have worked with only need a live toad rubbed onto pinkies to swap over.

thanks! my southern pair both eat f/t mice off the tongs with gusto! no scenting required here

Thanks! I like them

Yah, the southerns are very cool! One of the favorites in my collection. Got my pair from Dan Eby. Beautiful and solid feeders.

Great looking animals! Thanks for sharing.

I have to say though, I've always been confused by these "purple" line hogs that I have now seen for a couple of years. To me, there's nothing purple about them. If anything, some animals can look more burgundy than red while others, well, they don't really look all that different than the typical coloration, whether that's with the Normals or morphs like the Albinos, I just don't see the purple in them. It's nothing against your animals because they are beautiful, but this whole purple line thing just seems like another Mitcham scheme that is either way too difficult to reproduce or he's basing it all on just a very few select representative animals that is in no way representative of all so-called purple line hogs. Just like his extreme red line, not all that are labeled as such are extreme red or they simply do not hold the coloration true once they get older. In my mind, either the animal is what it is labeled or it isn't and therefore shouldn't be labeled as such when dealing with line traits. It's a totally different thing when dealing with quantifiable traits like Recessive or Codominant traits, but line traits can be just too unreliable, especially when outcrossed. Just my humble opinion. Sorry for the rant!

That Southern is stunning!!!

Thanks again for sharing Jonathan!

troy,

i have to agree that they don't look "purple" to me either. lol i have seen a couple that do look burgundy in color. i do believe you are correct that it is a line bred trait though. the female conda was labeled as "purple", so that is what i have called her. this female has been out crossed. i'm curious to see what kind of hogs hatch. i think it's good to have her out crossed, but i'm wondering how that will effect the offspring eveen with a nice dark red male. the "purple" albino male that i have is a nice dark red.

i am fairly new to hognose, and still learning about them, colors, line breeding, and such. his were the darkest red that i could find. i have seen other people that post pics of really nice dark reds, but not for sale.

i'm open to feedback, experience, and ideas. i'm just trying to find some of the best quality stock that i can find
