what makes a motley

could someone please explain what a motley is, i meant the pattern,
if i bought a motley how would i know its a motley?

Motley can vary in appearance. The dorsal blotches are fused at the corners forming dots, ovals and/or stripes down the back of the snake.

However, that dorsal pattern needs to be accompanied by a patternless or near patternless ventral.

If the pattern looks 'motley' on top, but the snake has the normal or near normal amount of belly checkers, it is sometimes referred to as a 'notley' because it is a not-motley.

I have two notleys.

Both those snakes have motley-like patterns, but they are not motleys because they have full expression of the belly checkers. They are simply 'oopsies' that happened during pattern formation when they were incubating.

I have what looks like a motley creamsicle, but the breeder who gave it to me told me it was not a motley, and I did not know why. Now I do. Its a notley lol. Thanks.
