New Hatchlings

Paleo Oct 04, 2013 10:54 AM

These banded chucks hatched about 2 weeks ago. The pics show the mating (the big male jumped on as soon as I placed him in the cage), the 8 eggs after they were layed, and the 6 that survived. Also the last pic shows one of my sons redback hatchlings, he had 5 hatch, enjoy, jim

Very nice Jim! They look great. When you get time can you post pics of your guys enclosures. Will you have any female banded available? Mail me.

Thanks Tom. The hatchlings are all doing well, but they are in the same outdoor setup with the Redbacks and their mother. The weather is cooling a lot now so they will probably begin hibernation soon. I would like to keep just one hatchling and all the others are available anytime, although it will probably be next spring before I can sex them.
The big banded male that I posted pics of earlier this year is now in Brody's set up and looking fat and healthy! He intends to use him to stimiulate his Hispidus male to breed next year. ....later...jim

Hey Jim what ever happened to that egg your son found that you thought might be a hybrid?

Hi Tom, Yeah, my big banded male did mate with one of his Hispidus females, but she never layed eggs, probably too young even though she seemed large enough. Next year both of his Hispidus females should be ready to lay and his new male Hispidus should be ready. If not we will put the banded male in the cage to stimulate him. Then I plan to place my large banded female in with the Hispidus male to see if he will mate, would be cool to produce some hybrids.....jim
