Guess you only get 3 pics? Tried to attach 4. Kingsnake needs to get with the times. This is an archaic process.

Trying for #4 here

I think I got it! Amazoa, any way to get the paint off of them? I dont dare pick at it!

I work with relocating Gopher Tortoises from development sites and sometimes they have paint from a by-gone time of legal tortoise races. We use a wire-brush and water to remove paint marking from old races. Granted they are larger tortoises because they have been around for a good few years after the outlawed races. Don't be too rough, but still apply enough force to get the paint. We also occasionally get smaller ones with a carapace length of around 130mm-220mm that we have to be more careful with. Takes some time but after a while we get most of it off. When we relocate them they have burrows to go into or that they dig themselves and so the sand wears down the rest of the paint until its almost impossible to tell that there was any on the tortoise.

Nail polish remover... will not hurt the tortoise at all.

I agree with EJ just alittle nail polish remover and wash the carapace afterwards. I have even used the rough side of those dish cleaning sponges and removed it. Sorry for not responding quickly as I have not been on the forum for awhile. The baby elongateds look great. Richard

Late reply but... I have been using fabric paint to mark tortoises. I get it from Walmart and it works great. It is easy to scrape off if you want to change it. And it does not contain the nasty acetone that nail polish has.

Nice adult elongated adults in your previous post Richard. Where did you get such a nice group? LOL.

The two pairs came from this guy who is a breeder and teaches on the side Ha!

Thanks Mark these tortoises I got from you had a terrific tenure at your place as evidenced by the picture underneaths Vics post on winter enclosures above.

Hey if you ever get down to North Florida give us a shout---Red Foots, Elongated and Boas one day then over to St Augustine for some good ole Southern Bar-B-Q and we will visit the Black & Brown Mountain Tortoise Facility owned by my friend Vic. Later Teach----Richard
