Hello all,

I am wondering what the minimum amount of time one has to brumate Bull Snakes in order for them to breed. I have two that I really wanna mate next year, but I want to get as much size on them as possible before I start the brumation process. Any advice?

Matty...what age are your bulls and how often do you feed them?
Do you feel they are as healthy as they possibly could be? These are the basic criteria I ask myself before putting my adults away
for breeding consideration. Its easier on most to simply follow the natural temperature cycles of the seasons to elicit breeding behaviors in our animals. I chill my animals in my garage and towards early spring I simply check my animals for increased activity. Some follow a more regimented process with their timing. I'm sure others will pipe in on the subject. Good luck with your project in 2014.

I didn't brumate mine last year per say, I just didn't provide heat. I live in Texas, so it might be below freezing one day and well above 80 the next. I kept them in the house in a room with the heat vent closed off. They probably averaged 55-70 all winter. I had 3 pairs, they all bred, and had a very good hatch rate. 100% on my reds and bananas, and 7 out of 11 on my ws.
