I have a pregnant rat that's huge!! I mean she is so fat around her belly I have never had one so big but it's been weeks and still hasn't given birth what should I do with her? She should have given birth already has anyone had this problem before? Thank you for any help!

animals...when pregnant will give birth when ready...IF for some reason they do not or cannot dilate for the actual birth to occur...then the babies cannot come out --and she will die...yes it happens....yes I imagine it hurts...I have had a few rats and a bunch of mice die like this over the years....not much we can do about it...I have used tem as food when I see the female is in distress...but you have to know they are not going to actually give birth and they are going to die...

Thanks for your reply I'm not sure what will be it's just nuts how big she is and still hasn't given birth if I fed her this fat she would explode.

I have seen huge "prego" rats, that actually were tumors. Good luck

Ironically, I just found one of my breeder females "stiff" with a pinky half way out of her! It sucks, but like Jyoe said, that's nature!

How long has she been like this? you said "weeks", but a rat pregnancy is about THREE weeks...if it's been longer than that It might be tumors like someone else said
